I'v never actually connected the specia...YES!!! I'v never actually connected the special and general revelation with that....... that's really cool. I knew about it but I see how that fits. Cool. I really appreciate hearing them!

As someone who reads largely Christian fiction and listens to mostly Christian music, I really appreciate hearing different opinions, too. What you're saying is totally true. Something doesn't have to be overtly Christian to show truth. There's this concept of general revelation and special revelation, which I've always found interesting and think applies to this situation. General revelation is that glimpse of God's truth that everyone can see, in nature, in humanity, in whatever. Special revelation is revealed through His Word. But that means that flawed human beings can still reflect God's truth, which I think is so cool. And that's why I definitely don't think we should dismiss secular stuff without thinking about it. :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!Rachelle O'Neilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02884513979937452569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1050645680221973601.post-20333445222686803402017-01-28T20:27:41.152-08:002017-01-28T20:27:41.152-08:00I agree with both of you on this mostly. Different...I agree with both of you on this mostly. Different aspects of both. Especially with the content. I grew up on all Christina fiction and just last year, I sort of introduced myself to legit YA fiction.
I was wary of a lot of what was in the books (sex, cussing, etc) and I still use common sense media and plugged in to check all that out.
I love the Christian genre. There are good stories if you go through and push aside the eh material (and there's those types in every genre)
The Butterfly and The Violin is one of my favorite books. But so is Unwind by Neal Shusterman. I feel like I (and others depending on what they think) can love both genres and accept that they both have faults.

The reason I've been reading more 'non Christian' books is because I read A LOT. and so many books are good.
It doesn't have to have Jesus, Bible verses, or Christian people in it for me to relate it to the Bible and apply it to life. I get a lot more out of most fiction by taking different themes and comparing them to God's word instead of having it all straight up and it's out in the open.

And with the music. The same with that for me. I naturally lean towards folk/alternative/punk rock music
Yeah there are a few in the Christian genre that I love (thousand foot krutch, Lauren daigle, switchfoot, relient k, jon foreman)
But I also love twenty one pilots, Bastille, oh hellos, and so so many others.
I try not to listen to music unless I can find God in it whether it's a hidden message or a worship song. Sometimes I will enjoy a song that really has no meaning but why waste hours filling your head with stuff that isn't going to make me thrive?

And I'm not putting this down to go against Christian fiction/music. I love it. It has its faults. But everyone grows through art in their own way. I think we should all accept that and thrive.

This was a great post to go along with Aimee's.

(And sorry if this was jumbled) Hannah Rodriguezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02032229483859881446noreply@blogger.com
